I'm sure most people have had a point in their life where they've been doing something and watched as something was about to cause them pain. This is what happens prior to starting Whitechapel's The Somatic Defilement. Boy, oh, boy is there pain. From beginning to end things are back-breaking heavy. The screams, the technical drumming, the pinch harmonics, all of it just make an entire album of extreme crushing weight. The entire album is good and heavy. I could say it more, but I'm sure you understand the heaviness of this album. The screams are what got me the most. The high and the low screams fused together perfectly in each song. There was never too much low or too much high. Songs like 'Devigination Studies" made me smile with how well put together the vocals were.
And let us not forget the 'breakdowns'. Not the typical metalcore, skip 1-5 beats in an 8 beat measure, but instead just the occasional death-core breakdown that makes you say 'f*** yes' out loud whenever you hear them topped by any number of guitar riffs. Holy damn, this album had them and they were all perfect.
The Somatic Defilement is an amazing album. I'd rate it in my top 3 deathcore albums of the year. Way to go Whitechapel for putting out a great album.
