Razzleblaster - Shopping... With Leeches Review
by Billy Gamble
.
Another hardcore/experimental Locust clone from California, Razzleblaster offers a more metal twist on the experimental scene. The three-track EP Shopping ... With Leeches includes some extreme bending over backwards for string sections, grindcore drums, and vocals ranging from Mike Patton to the aforementioned Locust. The EP begins with an explosion of experimental chaos. It sounds like the chaos of the Locust with Psyopus math-metal complexity. What sets Razzleblaster from the Locust are the song structures. Razzleblaster's music isn't as chaotic but more melodic than the Locust. In the tracks "Aren't You the Squid Pisser?" and "Spinnerettes" both contain incredible speed-of-light odd sounding math-metal-ish solos by the multi-instrumentalist Tommy Meehan. Meehan also makes up the guitar, vocal, sample, and keys sections of Razzleblaster. All-in-all, this is frenetic and heady stuff. Razzleblaster's Shopping... With Leeches 1. Aren't You the Squid Pisser? 2. Spinnerettes 2. The Taxidermined Paperboy in the Corner just Blinked at Me
