In a series of severely over distorted guitars and semi-fast paced drum beats By Night adds to the list of mediocrity that many metal heads are getting quite sick of. By Night's A New Shape Of Desperation had me excited for a small bit of time, but left me disappointed in the end due to the unchanging sound of the entire album. The vast majority of A New Shape Of Desperation was just some near fast drumming atop repetition of some riff or chord. By track three I was tired of things, but I gave By Night a chance. I happened to stumble upon "Dead Eyes See No Future," which was really slowed-down and a toss-up of some decent drone metal. There was also the last song on the album, "Time Is Running Out," which had a epic feel to it, but other than those two songs, things really didn't waiver.
As much as I was really pulling for By Night to be something pretty good, I was sadly disappointed at how typical the entire album was and overall, if you heard one song, you've heard them all. And to add some cheesy cliche at the end here: A New Shape Of Desperation was actually A New Shape Of Desperation.
