When I first listened to The Autumn Offering's Embrace The Gutter, I immediately started saying how they sounded like a bunch of bands, and sure, that's a way to judge, but this time, I won't even go into how they sound like Lamb Of God mixed with Still Remains with a dose of All Shall Perish and As I Lay Dying. No, not this time. Wait, add a tablespoon of Bury Your Dead, then I won't say anything.Being a band off of Victory Records, I didn't have high hopes. Luckily, they have some talent and some sweet breakdowns--I'm sorry, but I am a victim of Breakdown Loving Syndrome.
The majority of the CD sounds like your typical metalcore band with a touch of talent here and there, which actually makes up for the nu-metal sound that touches your ear on a few tracks. It's the solos that make up for the mediocrity of the choruses and verses on top of some of the breakdowns of the CD.
My BLS says that the CD is good for those in a need to punch the f**k out of the air, but aside from that, there's not much to gain from this band.
Embrace The Gutter takes the typical parts of metalcore and exploits them while adding in a touch of originality via impressive guitar solo/riffage, all for another Victory Records band...that's all she wrote folks.
