Potter's Harry Death
Aaaaand, we're back.
I'm sorry folks. I've been on a bit of
a hiatus for the last few weeks... The blogging business has kept me a
bit busy alongside my college work. Oh computer science, how powerful is
thine might?
Sure, I could blab about the idiotic remarks
by our wonderful Attourny General, Mr. Alberto Gonzales, about how habeas
corpus isn't technically guaranteed by the US constitution... No, tonight,
ladies and gentlemen, I shall bring you: My thoughts on the new Harry Potter
book.
Oh sh*t! Don't tell Ms. Mallory the 7th
book is coming out in June. She might go ape-sh*t and start making more
of those damn Chick cartoons... Effing fundamentalists.
But seriously, I am a geek for Harry Potter.
With the announcement of the final Harry Potter book's release on June
21st of this year, I am happy and sad. Sure, I want to know the end to
this awesome trail that JK Rowling has lead me down for the last 7 years
because I sure as hell know it won't just be a little flame of excitement
in the end. Oh hell no. JK Rowling is going to burn the whole f**king fire
down with this last book.
I mean, the title of the book alone ("Harry
Potter and the Deathly Hallows") is kick ass. Of course, myself along with
thousands of others have attempted to analyze this title via forums and
definitions (US and UK) but have come to the conclusion that if you look
at the last six books, it's pointless:
----------------------- SPOILER ALERT-----------------------
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's/ Philosopher's
Stone - this was a key to the book, but was a real foot-note in the actual
plot. Sure it had significance because without it Voldemort wouldn't have
even shown up at Hoggy-Hoggy-Hogwarts, but what was important in this book
wasn't Voldemort's appearance; instead the friendships between Ron, Harry
and Hermione and Harry's instant love for the wizarding world.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- the CoS was just a side plot to the whole story. Voldemort was coming
back because of his little diary, the CoS was there to add an epic battle
at the end and to add in the kickass Basilisk.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- this title is kind of lame (maybe because this is my least favorite HP
book) only because you find out who the character is--well his name at
least--at the beginning of the book. This of course leads one thing into
another (aka: being scared of Mr. Sirius Black), but isn't a key point
in the plot.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - again,
the title names something that causes one thing to lead to another; all
of which is centered around the whole twist with a certain character. The
GoF does lead Harry to the graveyard and such, but, as I said, one thing
leads to another an. blah blah blah.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
- the OotP is important in this book, but only because of the beginning
of the book. Dumbledore starts getting more mysterious and Harry feels
like he is being left out of everything--this is the main focus of the
book. Sure, the end battle is cool and it is part of the OotP, but other
than that everything is revolved around Harry being pretty pissed, while
attempting to manage romance: a total hook for me... sadly.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- the importance of this title has, in my opinion, the least to do with
the story out of all six so far. When you find out who the HBP is, you're
shocked but it plays no real part in the story. You find out how intelligent
one character is but other than that you're focused on the real plot events
that have come to shape the upcoming book.
So, as you should be able to see, the titles
contain some important parts to the books but really are--usually--there
as a gateway to bigger and better things. If I may drag this on a bit more...
My guess as to what 'Deathly Hallows' means
is this: there is going to be some significance at Godric's Hollow where
Harry's parents were killed. Seeing that 'deathly' could mean 'indicating
death' and 'hallows' could mean 'to honor,' I would think that this would
mean that Harry, when he visits Godric's Hollow will find out something
severely important pertaining to how to stop Voldemort as he honors their
deaths... and of course, one thing could lead to another...
But I could just be crazy.
-----------------------END SPOILERS -----------------------
But anyways, I'm anxiously awaiting this
book and I'm hoping that it will be about 1500 pages long, just so it won't
end... seriously.
