When the rantings and ravings of Mike Rapin
fill up among his small group of listeners, he turns to the digital pen
and paper. Expect nothing less than irrational cries about meaningless
anythings and possibly a logical idea here or there, but nonetheless hilarious
(for those with a real sense of humor).

Pirating: Not just the open
seas
By the hammer of Thor... There is no other
greater being in this realm in which we live than that of Thor, son of
Odin.
But that's beside the point.
This week, I will go very random on you
folks. This week, I shall take a tangent that will surprise someone if
not everyone. This week, I want to start on a good, clean note.
It was about 4:00AM on a Saturday (technically
Sunday*) when I realized what the fuck was on my TV: Avenged Sevenfold.
This got me thinking about how the majority of metal on non-Headbangers
Ball is pretty lame and I have only this to say: Good for you MTV, you're
the reason people pirate music.
Yeah, I just said that. Pirating music.
People do it more than I can believe, and
it's no wonder those million dollar making bands bitch about it. To elaborate,
out of 20 people in my dorm at school, 13 pirate music. Some good stats
huh?
Why is this? Really, I believe it is because
of two things:
1. The Media (MTV, VH1, Parade, etc.) hypes
the fuck out of some album or artist and people go to buy the CD, but when
people go to buy it, the cost is too damn high.
2. Laziness.
I would give it a bit of both, but I hope
you can see that number 1 is more prevalent out of the two.
But besides all of that, pirating anything
is too easy and people do it simply because so much stuff costs so much
money (how's that for bad writing?). I know people who download and use
"cracked" version of some huge software packages simply because they don't
want to fork over the $400 it costs for ONE license of this software.
I understand this is about profit, but
I believe I have a solution:
Linux.
Yes, the Linux operating system. Why? Because
this operating is free, packed full of free software and has thousands
of free programs available for download some even comparable to the above
described "software packages."
Linux offers software for word processors,
code development, photo editing and the lot. But you may say: "Linux is
for computer gurus, not for the average Joe," and to this I will have to
say, yes and no. First, Linux can be set up to run just like your Windows
or Mac computer, plus you can run the newest of the new Linux distributions
on some older hardware and achieve the same "awesomeness" as you would
on some top-of-the-line machine. It's quite amazing.
Did I say it was all free?
Yes, I believe that this will solve the
software pirating and such, but for the music half, I will say this:
Fuck terrible music, start realizing that
music should be cheap and easy to listen to. People want cheap and easy
and the way things are working now is definetly nof cheap and easy.
PS. I know this was a bit short, but I'll
have a good one for my next entry... unless YOU have an idea. E-mail me:
