"Thicker Than Water is a collection of
images & memories that start with the first time we stood on the deck
of a surf board & ends with an eighteen month journey through the North
Atlantic, South Pacific & Bay of Bengal" ~Jack Johnson &
The Malloys
With such producers as Jack Johnson, Kevin
Bacon & G. Love the soundtrack for this indie film inspired by and
loved by the surf culture embodies all the ideals & mentality of this
easy going social set.
"Rainbow" which is a duet with Johnson
and G. Love is probably the most notable track of the CD that brings the
elements of the ocean & music and weave them into a mental image of
the surf culture.
The soundtrack incorporates spoken word,
reggae, Asian/Indian influences, southern bayou blues, guitar melodies
& sound bytes of the ocean into a soothing compilation and continually
flowing musical escape. Don’t expect Dick Dale on this CD. It’s a much
more mellow illustration of the music which evolved from and revolves around
all that is the surf culture.
The few up-tempo tracks like "Honor &
Harmony" add just enough kick to the subdued collection of songs from the
various artists who lent their talents to the project.
