Neurotica’s Seed
CD is a full throttled assault of the senses that will leave you screaming
for more. In other words This CD will kick your A**, that is putting it
lightly.
Neurotica hails from
Florida where they were discovered By AC/DC front man Brian Johnson, who
took them under his wing, got them a recording Contract with NMG Entertainment,
and then produced their debut CD Seed. Does the influence show? It does
indeed but not much in the sound department, sure the opening track "Deadly
Sin" begins with a classic AC/DC riff. The reason for that is most likely
the fact that the tunes was co-written by Johnson with Executive Producer
Doug Kaye. No the AC/DC influence shows in energy and attitude. The same
balls to the wall feeling found on the earlier AC/DC records can be felt
loud and clear on this Disc.
Taking the grunge,
and heavy, I mean Heavy, metal sounds and twisting them into the sometimes
Trippy Neurotica sound can not be an easy task, but these guys appear to
know what they are doing. From Deadly Sin to Genius to Lunatic, it is apparent
that Johnson has a nose for the next big thing.
"Deadly sin" like
stated earlier opens with a classic AC/DC sounding riff then kicks into
over drive with a White Zombie meets Sound Garden delivery on the lead
vocals. The guitar work on this disc seems to borrow from the best of the
heavy spectrum of popular music of the past 15 years, from grunge progressions,
to Speed Metal riffs it is all there. Not to say these guys just recycle
what we have already heard, not at all they have a very fresh sound that
should appeal to fans of many musical genres.
We are treated to
a funky bassline and guitar harmonics for the second track “Two Worlds”,
the vocals are more melodic than the first track, showing that Neurotica
is just as good kickin Ass as they are just rockin with a funky back beat.
Possibly, my favorite
track on Seed is “Easy Speak”. Which starts out with a real mellow bluesy
feel, then when the Chorus is repeated the distortion kicks in. Kelly Shaefer
struts his vocal stuff with this tune, with his vocal manipulation. What
can I say this song is just damn cool.
Seed Delivers in
every department, it is filled with killer guitar riffs and chops not to
mention Smokin Guitar solos courtesy of Shawn Bowen and Mike Gaudreau.
G.J. Gosman pounds the skins vigorously and produces some nice fills, while
Clay Yeagley lays a solid foundation with his Bass Chops on songs like
"Two Worlds", and "Free".
You may not of heard
of Neurotica yet, but believe me you will, this stuff is just too cool
to be over looked. If you love hard rock, alternative, grunge, or speed
metal, pick this disc up. It comes with the added bonus of giving you the
ability to put it in your CD player and cranking it to 10, which is guaranteed
to piss your neighbors off. That reason alone will justify the purchase.
Bottom line Seed
is more fun than a frontal lobotomy and less bloody.
