A Place in the Sun
Lit is no longer Orange County California's
best kept secret. Now the audio assault is the bang heard round the world
with the release of their major label debut - A Place in the Sun on RCA
Records.
A place in the Sun gives us a more radio
friendly Lit than their debut. This does not mean they have sold out for
major label bucks.. no parents will still hate it and the guitars
are bound to send granny into cardiac arrest. With A Place in the
Sun we get to hear a more polished and produced Lit.
The raw power of their debut Tripping the
Light Fantastic is still evident on the new disc. However, lead vocalist
A. Jay Popoff showed much more vocal range with tracks like Miserable,
and Zip-Lock.
For those craving the overpowering guitar
riffs Lit is renowned for will not be disappointed. The patented Lit power
cords are here, as well as the dynamic transitions which sets them apart
from other bands.
The strength of Lit is not just the screaming
vocals of A. Jay Popoff or the heavy guitars of his brother Jeremy. Nor
is it the hard hitting drums of Allen Shellenberger or the powerful bass
lines of Kevin Baldes. It is the entire package. Lit has a compelling sound
that is distinct and not easily forgotten, on top of that these guys know
how to write great songs.
A Place in the Sun has a much broader appeal
while retaining the element that make Lit, well Lit. Songs like My own
Worst Enemy, Down, and Quicksand are sure to keep the old fans happy, while
Miserable, Happy, and the Best is Yet to Come Undone should appeal to fans
who might not have been attracted to the heavier Tripping the Light Fantastic.
For those who never heard the bands debut,
one of the favorites made onto this album, No Big Thing. If you like that
track do yourself a favor and check out the entire album.
Overall I would have to say that this album
is the best new album I have heard this year. Sure, I was already a fan
of this band before hearing A Place in the Sun. As an established fan I
was not disappointed with their transition to the majors.
The only thing better that a Lit album
is a Lit concert, and well that is the other part of the secret Orange
County fans are letting the rest of the world in on. With plans to tour
with eve6 and heavy airplay of the first single My Own Worst Nightmare,
Lit should surely make a major splash on the Music scene.
