No
Woodstock for Europe this year.
The plan
was to hold two mega music festivals days apart on different continents.
Iggy Pop and Metallica were lined up to headline the European dates in
Wiener-Neustadt, Austria on the weekend of July 16th.
The
European leg of the festival is no more. Festival promoters when faced
with the nightmare of staging two transcontinental shows days apart baulked.
The decided instead to focus on the proven formula for success with the
American end of the festival.
The
promoters do hold out hope for a Euro-Woodstock in the year 2000 or 2001.
We will hold our breath.
Meanwhile
the US Woodstock is still set to occur July 23-25 in Rome, New York.
There have been no announcements concerning the line up of the US Woodstock,
but rumors have it that Metallica is a strong possibility.
