Top Rock News Stories
Hard
Rock is alive & Well on the Road this summer.
Is
it the Summer of 88 or 98? When looking at the roster for the forthcoming
Hard tour that question might come to mind. This heavy metal assault includes
The Bullet Boys, Bang Tango, Enuff Z'nuff, Pretty Boy Floyd, and Head lining
is none other than Gilby Clarke (formerly with Guns n' Roses). The tour
has many 80's Hard rock newsgroups and ezines buzzing with activity. The
Tour officially kicks off in Las Vegas on July 18th, and will make
its way across the US through September.
With
the increased popularity of the internet, the grass roots fan base for
80's rock has really been energized, no longer despairing because of lack
of radio airplay, and major labels Shunning every artist who could
even remotely be called a Hair band. These fans have started a underground
network of newsgroups, web sites, email list, web rings, and IRQ chats.
"Every
genre of Music goes out of Style, but it eventually comes back. Tens years
from now kids are going to laugh when bands like Greenday or Third Eye
Blind are mentioned. Is Hair rock making a come back? I don't know, but
it has never really gone away for die hard fans. As long as there are fans,
the music will live on." States lead singer Robyn D. Kradle of the San
Diego Glam rock outfit, Metalic Toyz.
Many
of these artist have continued to play in the 90's. Bang Tango, and Pretty
Boy Floyd have been very active on the club circuit.
Illinois
Rockers Enuff Z'nuff really never fit the Glam label they were given when
they hit the charts with New Thing and Fly High Michelle in 1990. The music
has always been the focus for this band, Image comes dead last in their
list of priorities. They have continued to put out albums, and tour. Considered
to be more of a 90's band rather than 80's, they have still had to fight
hard to kill the "Glam" label. Not all their fans are thrilled about
this tour. "I can't believe they are going out on a 80's Hair band tour"
complains one fan. Enuff Z'nuff sees it as an opportunity to play for some
new people, and to tour in places they normally wouldn't get a chance to
play. The ultimate irony? It might just take an 80's tour, where
people will see them and hear their music, that will give Enuff Z'nuff
the ability to kill the glam label once in for all.
As
for Guns n Roses fans, don't expect GNR tunes to be included in Gilby Clarks
set. He does play some covers live, but not those from his former band.
Whether
you are a child of the 80's and want to relive yesteryear, or just want
to see what these artist are doing now. The hard tour should be a good
time for all Hard Rock Fans. |
Green
Day Bassist gets head bashed with a beer bottle.
The
Bass player for Greenday was injured after a show at the KROQ Weenie Roast.
The
altercation came after Arion Salazar of the band Third Eye Blind got on
stage and bear hugged Mike Dirnt during Green Day's performance. Caught
by surprise Dirnt hit and kicked Salazar.
Back
stage after the show Dirnt and Salazar reportedly got into to it again,
when Dirnt was struck over the head with a Beer Bottle. Some reports
indicate that it was a fan who did the bashing, others say it was Salazar.
Dirnt suffered a fracture to his skull as a result.
Dirnt
is back home in Berkeley California recuperating. And the band plans to
continue with plans for a 3 week Canadian tour.
Meanwhile
Salazar issues a public apology.
"I
am sorry that my attempt at doing something I thought would be funny escalated
into Mike getting hurt. That was never my intention. I simply had too much
to drink and made a very bad decision.
"If
I had been in Mike's place, I'm sure I would have acted similarly. My heart
goes out to him, and I hope he recovers quickly. We have many friends in
common, and I just hope that he can accept my sincerest apology. I am sorry,
Mike."

Poison
front man joins up with Brat-packer.
Bret
Michaels lead singer of Glam rock group Poison has teamed up with Brat
packer Charlie Sheen to make movies. The two formed a production company
called Sheen/Michaels Entertainment. The first project for the new company
is a Marlon Brando Film Free Money.
The
film is a comedy featuring Donald Sutherland, Mira Sorvino, Sheen and Thomas
Haden Church. The premise of the film is that Sheen and Churches
characters marry prison warden Brando's daughters and move in to his home.
Then bored with life, and feeling trapped they decide to rob a train filled
with cash. We could tell you more but we won't spoil it for you. Look for
this film to be released in the Fall.
The
new production company is also working on four other films: Two Aces,
Street Pirates, The Famous Final Scene and Skin Trade. Street Pirates is
a documentary about young criminals who leave juvenile hall to sail boats.
Five Aces sounds like a remake of the Big Chill for Generation X'ers. Sheen
also stars in Five Aces as the man who is to married, and gathers a few
of his collage friends in a cabin to celebrate. There are no details on
the other two films at this time.
Michaels
turned to film after the grunge music scene took over and made glam passé.
He has one self produced film to his credit, Letters from Death row, a
film in which he played the staring character. Expect Michaels to use his
musical talents on the sound tracks to most of the films that Sheen/Michaels
Productions put out.
