Sinopoli: Big Hair, Hard-Rock and MTV
by: Rick Mulholland

Has exposure on MTV changed the life of Joey Sinopoli?

"Yes, it has," jokes the southern New Jersey rock icon. "All of my customers now want big 80's hair! Spandex stock has risen dramatically. And the neighbors think I'm the next Adam Curry."

On July 8th, Joey appeared on the music channel's "Lunch With Jesse," an afternoon show hosted by the one-of-a-kind vee-jay. The duo teamed at Joey Sinopoli's Hair Cutters to discuss and sculpt the 1980's phenomenon "big hair." The result was the transformation of an unsuspecting customer into a glam-rock god.

"Jesse and I had a great time," comments Joey. "The clock turned back ten years. Where was David Lee Roth when we needed him? I would like to give a big ‘thanks' to Jack Ponti for arranging everything."

Sinopoli, the hard-rock band, will ride this wave of exposure right into August 15th. They will take the stage at the expanded 9 South Bar on Route 9 in Bayville. The show will be FREE.

Joey and Nicky Sinopoli formed the band bearing their last name in 1988. Joined by the flamboyant Bobby "Doll" Abranowicz and many replaced drummers (none of which actually exploded), Sinopoli rocked up and down the Garden State. They released two EPs, "Rock To The Top" and "Sinopoli II", which went on to sell over 5,000 copies. Regularly featured at such shore- based clubs as Olsen's, Galaxy and Captain Hook's, the band received air play on radio stations WJRZ (100.1 FM), WOBM (92.7 FM) and WSOU (89.5 FM). Their hit "Girl You Got Me Going" was the number one requested song on WJRZ for three weeks — outranking Def Leppard's "Animal", Poison's "Every Rose Has It's Thorn", and Guns N'Roses' "Paradise City." Sinopoli also appeared on the cult television program "The Uncle Floyd Show."

The band returned to the Shore for what was to be a one-time show last March. Frigid weather and snow did not stop a few hundred diehard fans from singing along while kicking back some beers and diet sodas. The venue's and fans' demand have brought Sinopoli back again.

Sinopoli will perform three hours of great rock n'roll. The set list will be comprised of the band's hits "Let's Get The Party Started," "No More," and the tear-the-walls-down rocker "When I Get Home." New originals, including "Don't Mess With My Girlfriend" and "I Like It," will be introduced. The band will also perform Alice Cooper's "Eighteen," Kiss' "I Was Made For Loving You," Judas Priest's "You Got Another Thing Comin'," and Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way," to name just a few. Rock fans will definitely be going nuts with Sinopoli once more.

"I can't wait for this show," says Joey. "It's always great to be out in front of an audience. I consider myself to be very lucky to have great fans that don't mind singing and dancing until they drop. Hey, some of them may even take off their clothes! Nothing surprises me when Sinopoli performs."
