News: RIAA Sues MP3.com
It was only a matter of time
before it happened. The Recording Industry of America has filed suit against
MP3.com for alleged copyright violations.
The RIAA suit was filed in
Federal Court in New York against the San Diego base company. The RIAA
claims that MP3.com has compiled a catalog of 40,000 copyright protected
albums and allows their visitors to instantly download this copyrighted
material.
The RIAA is attempting to
force MP3.com to shut down two of their popular features, "Beam-it" and
"Instant Listening.".
The Los Angeles Times stated
that MP3.com chief executive Michael Robertson said that he had not yet
had a chance to review the lawsuit but they have every intention of fighting
it.
The Recording Industry Association
of America (RIAA) is an industry trade group with the responsibility of
handing our gold and platinum albums. In recent years they have also spearheaded
the recording industries fight against digital music pirating. Perhaps
that explains why they have been too busy to give our good friends Enuff
Z'nuff a gold record for their self titled album?
