Auf Der
Maur
By Adrian Alfonso
Finally a kick ass album. Melissa Auf Der
Maur the bassist of Hole and late-Smashing Pumpkins fame has released a
solo album. On this album, she should be recognized as an artist worthy
of our attention. Her latest album SURPRISINGLY titled Auf Der Maur also
has a lot of cameo appearances by Jeordie White (Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn
Manson fame), James Iha, (formerly Smashing Pumpkins now A Perfect Circle),
Paz Lenchantin ( of Big Milk and formerly A Perfect
Circle), even Pazs' sister makes an appearance.
The first song on the album "Lightning
is my Girl" is up there as one of the best tracks. "Meet me on the corner
of your true blue skies" Der Maur sings on. It is a beautiful and "rock
fist" raising song that will keep that song on repeat in your stereo for
weeks to come. Then there is the second song and first single off the album,
"Followed the Waves", listen to the chorus (even on the video Melissa
shows you how to bang your head to the song). This song kicks rocks I can
definitely hear this somewhere in a bar
jukebox in Jersey.
The third song "Real a Lie" has one of
the catchiest choruses you'll hear all year. On the forth song "Head Unbound"
Melissa sounds a lot like PJ Harvey.
Well that's pretty much it, he rest of
the album really isn't that good. Serious. The first songs on the album
kick a lot of ass but the rest is generic as hell. Until the hidden song
kicks in. The song is sung is French and sounds beautiful.
If you can find this album for around ten
bucks, get it. This album was made completely for A Perfect Circle fans
and Smashing Pumpkin fans.
