Million Billion - Ready. Fire. Aim. Review
by Ashleigh Hill
.
Million Billion: A Perfect Number Gavin Bellour, Brian Ulrich, and Yonatan Elkayam have made a few good decisions since their 2005 formation. For one, they branded themselves Million Billion and took on a smooth folk rock sound reminiscent of the highly regarded Dispatch. They also pulled themselves together and recorded Ready. Fire. Aim . a CD which has fine tuned the art of fullness in brevity and stepped just over the line of merely being a good pop album. Each song starts and finishes at just the right time, leaving nothing to the wanting ear except another listen. Starting off with "The Moped Song" Million Billion's folk-y guitar-based funk earns its way into one song after another. Mid-album the band gives a slight nod to the brief 90's swing music era with "Apocalypse Now" and introduces the emphatically addictive "Reciprocation" continuing on with the light but significant head-bobbing effect Ready. Fire. Aim. exposes oh so nicely. The busy but necessary guitars paired with a rhythmic dose of swing gives Million Billion just the platform they need for wherever they plan on going.
