Misery Signals - Mirrors Review
.
The only thing that was remaining to be seen, once former vocalist Jesse Zaraska, was how Misery Signals new vocalist would do in filling Jesse's shoes, and how his vocal style would change and/or fit with the band's brutal sound. With the inclusion of new vocalist Karl Schubach, the band found everything they needed to find a viable replacement, and more. Aside from the new Unearth release earlier this year, this was my second most anticipated release of 2006.The album starts out with a brutal one-two punch, with "Face Yourself", followed by "The Failsafe" (the latter of which there is a video available on the band's myspace page). Misery Signals has been a band that is known for their technical prowess, blending heavy rhythm guitar tones with smoking leads layered over the verses in many of the songs. The songwriting here is just as solid as ever, if not more solid even, than the band's prior release "Malice and the Magnum Heart". Lyrically, "Mirrors" is not unlike their previous outing as well. The lyrics here are solid and non-cliché, something that's not always easy to accomplish in the metal scene. People who were already familiar with Misery Signals will enjoy this album a great deal. What would be more fitting, however, is for Misery Signals to garner even more fan support and exposure, both of which would be more than fitting for this Wisconsin-based 5-piece band.
