Live Freaky! Die Freaky! Review
by Eric Bodrero
.
John Roecker directs this puppet film
about the dangers of organized religion and is based on Helter Skelter,
the 1974 book by Vincent Bugliosi and Curt Gentry about the trials
of Charles Manson and his followers, and it ain't one for the kiddies.
Basically if you like your clay puppet,
stop-motion animation movies full of obligatory and explicit sex/pornography,
gratuitous violence, gallons upon gallons of clay blood, extremely vulgar
and obscene language, and just the most disgusting scenes/situations you
could imagine (it depicts the real life events of Charles Manson and family
after all), you're going to love this movie. For all others stay far, far
away from this unless you want to have nightmares about it for months and
have images burned into your mind that you wouldn't otherwise want burned
there. If you want to read more into this film, Google the title and/or
the director (or check all the usual DVD sites) for lots and lots of people's
opinions and interviews of Roecker explaining why he made the movie, the
film's hidden meanings, etc. I don't even want to guess, and I especially
don't want to sicken myself further by describing it to you. I will say
this however: why not just go read the book about the life of Charles Manson?
Why watch an x-rated, twisted, supposedly humorous clay puppet film about
it?
Some have enjoyed this film, others haven't.
Obviously my stance is with the latter group. I didn't enjoy the humor,
I didn't enjoy the slaughters, I didn't enjoy the pornography, I didn't
enjoy the adult and pornographic conversations and dialog, heck I didn't
even enjoy the animated puppets and especially the voice acting. I guess
my sense of decency and moral isn't as sick and twisted as others. I can't,
in good conscience, even tell you to go rent this. If you absolutely must
see this film, do it at your own risk. I mean this whole-heartedly: You've
been warned.
