Summerland
Soundtrack
By Jen Procop
It's always more of a challenge to write
a soundtrack review for a show you haven't seen and such is the case with
soundtrack for Summerland. Some of the best shows ever made have disappointed
even the most loyal fan with great music featured in the series followed
up with a terrible "soundtrack" that lacks all the good tracks you remember
while watching the show. With that being said, this is a decent compilation
geared to the pubescent fans's who most likely watch Summerland.
The soundtrack has a variety of genres
on the CD, from hard rock to alternative, R and B and teeny pop. Artists
like Bowling for Soup, Lisa Loeb, Jesse Mc Carthy and others showcase some
of their lastest material and although there isn't a "superhit" on this
CD there are a few bright moments on the compilation that may encourage
you to check it out.
"My Paper Heart" by the All American Rejects
is by far the best tune on the disc. The hooks are tight, lyrics are thoughtful
and it's a very good song regardless of where you find it. Honorable mention
should also be sent to Ringside who's song "Struggle" shows their U2 influence
but also their own individuality and growth. In addition, check out the
tracks from Ivy, Bowling for Soup, Citizen Cope and New Found Glory. The
nice thing about compilations are that you can hear new songs from some
of your favorite bands that may not have been released previously- If you
are an All American Rejects fan, it's worth the trip to HMV.
