Slunt –
Get a Load of This
By Zane Ewton
Antimusic posted a review of Slunt’s EP
a while ago and now we have the full length debut, Get a Load of This.
In the EP review, Slunt was described as “ultimately chick metal.”
Not entirely accurate, but close enough.
Slunt owes a great deal to the likes of
Courtney Love, Liz Phair and The Donnas. Not to mention AC/DC.
It is very difficult to listen to Get a Load of This without thinking
of Love’s vocals, Phair’s lyrics and the Donnas riffs. Unfortunately
the band doesn’t offer much more than that.
This band really is just dumb fun for
girls who think Avril is lame but are scared off by the politics or message
of the crew of “alternative” female rock bands. The thirteen tracks
on Get a Load of This have a few promising surprises and a couple
funny jokes, but the show starts to get old early.
