Yesterday
& Today: Dwight Twilley - 47 Moons
By Kevin Wierzbicki
Twilley broke big in 1975 with the hit
“I’m on Fire” but has struggled ever since to maintain an audience outside
of his regional fan base in the country’s heartland. You can blame that
on the quirkiness of radio; Twilley has consistently produced an interesting
pop amalgam to showcase his tremulous vocal style. The best songs here
are the peppiest; “Better Watch Out,” “Chance of a Lifetime” and the piano
driven “Flippin’.” The whimsical “Jackie Naked in the Window” also takes
an honorable mention. Perhaps of more interest to Twilley fans than 47
Moons would be last year’s Have a Twilley Christmas E.P., where
Twilley rocked it up pretty good on six original Christmas tunes, including
the out-of-this-world “Christmas with the Martians.”
