Slave to the System Review
by Joannie Foney

.
In the weird world of all star band compilations, Velvet Revolver will always rank up there high on the list of overrated disappointments. The fear a person has of buying a new CD based on this "VR effect", hopefully doesn't steer too many away from this album, which features former members of Queensyrche & Brother Cain offering up many songs that are vastly superior to the VR catalogue, without sacrificing the quirkiness of the individuals in the band. Although about half this CD is slow stuff, it somehow manages to be tolerable. The rest is good, solid rock songs that catch the attention & hold it. It's all catchy stuff, better than anything being played on the radio today, which I realize isn't saying much. It's a weird mix, but somehow it works. No clue who would be interested in this, given its incredibly strange shifts between songs that sound like 80s power ballads & songs that don't. Such a blend has me at a loss for words. Check out their website & sample it & see what I mean.
