Brides of Destruction -
"Here Come The Brides"
By Linda Spielman
Nobody back in the 80s would have thought
that rival members of some of LA's most famous and infamous bands would
join forces in 2004 to bring back some of the heyday of wild nights of
rock n roll on the Sunset Strip.
Well, the evolution and musical collaboration
of members of LA Guns and Motley Crue have born Brides of Destruction.
With forces such as Tracii Guns and Nikki Sixx "Here Comes The Brides"
if nothing else is a listen for the pure morbid fascination of it all.
Not too surprising that this album doesn't disappoint and actually rekindles
a lot of old school rock of the 80s but kicked up a few knotches and decibels.
The no apologies, all out rock tracks like "Brace Yourself", "2x Dead"
and "I Don't Care" make this child of the 80s smile proudly. Yes, maybe
the lyrics are a bit harsh (some of which I can't quote). But you can't
tell me that everyone is happy all the time? I sure can tell you, that
on bad days I don't want to be listening to some wishy washy feel good
CD. I want to be able to get my frustrations out by channeling my hostility
through a CD like this.
Believe it or not, there are some stronger
melodic tracks towards the end of the CD. This I wasn't expecting. The
strength of the songs is still there, but he band is able to show their
true musicianship by turning the volume down a little bit at the end.
The CD is a good listen, but a little
heavy of vulgarity. It is obvious that the band collectively took a lot
of effort, time and pride putting the CD together.
Tracii, along with Nikki, Scot Coogan and
London LeGrand may be the new improved wave of the classic hard rock band
today.
